Political Parties

Today we are looking at political parties.  Since you will be old enough to vote in the next election, it may be useful to know a little about the options. 

Provincial  

For each of the main political parties answer the following questions.  Here are some links to help

BC Liberals
BC NDP
BC Green
BC Conservatives

1. What is the party name?
2. Who is the leader right now?
3. Describe their 'platform', what they plan to do, what their views are.  It may help to think of the following:
Heathcare
education
taxes
the environment
social services (welfare etc)
balancing the budget
4. Where on the political spectrum is the party

Today you will be looking at Aboriginal Title and Land claims in Canada.

2. Briefly explain what 'Treaty rights" and "Aboriginal rights" are.


3. What rights and laws did the Constitution Act (1982) put in place?

4. Summarize the main points of the agreement James Bay Cree, Inuit and Quebec. (On a side note, Attawapiskat is also on James bay but in Ontario)

5. In the court case Delgamuukw V. B.C., how did the court decide that Aboriginal title (ownership) differ from Ordinary land ownership? (Point form in fine)

6. Explain if you think the Nisga'a treaty was a good idea? For who? Why?,
