For this assignment you may work in pairs.
You are to create a research paper/powerpoint/prezi/video on either one individual or one individual groups of early British Columbians. It must be someone or a group of people that influenced or lived in BC.
eg. Chinese
First Nations groups
People of African decent
Indian (India)
Kanaka (Hawaii)
Jewish
others
For your project include:
Who are they?
Where did they come from?
How did they get here?
What brought them to B.C. (push and pull factors)
Where did they settle in B.C. (Community, what was it like?)
What was there life in B.C. like?
What were the long term contributions to B.C.
Include pictures, clear write-up.

Today we are looking at political parties. Since you will be old enough to vote in the next election, it may be useful to know a little about the options.

Today you will be looking at Aboriginal Title and Land claims in Canada.

Today we are going to look at the proposed Enbridge pipline and how it relates to economics and how it ties into First Nations Land Claims.

1. Briefly outline some of the major concerns and benefits of the pipeline.
2. What are the Alberta oil sands?
next look at this link showing existing and proposed pipelines. It also shows the Keystone pipeline which is a very controversial proposal in the U.S. link
3. Is there anything that you find surprising or interesting about this map.
4. Given the number of (these very expensive) pipelines that go into and out of the oil sands, what does that tell you about the economic incentives for removing oil (non-renewable)?
5. Now that you have more information, what is your opinion on the pipeline. Should it be built and why? Should we not build it, why? (Paragraph)

3. What were the challenges they faced in getting the right to vote and be 'people'?
4. When were women given the right to vote in Federal and Provincial elections in Canada?
5. How does Canada compare to (5) other countries in allowing women to vote.
6. How are equal rights today? Are men and women equal today? In what areas are they, in what areas are they not?

Next, please go to the bottom of the article, (section 15) and pick ONE of the links. They are similar in some ways to what happened in the US and Canada but are modern day examples. You are to then summarize in your own words what happened, why and the outcome in a couple of paragraphs.
